- Paul Allen Master of Education, 1973
Paul Allen, a retired teacher, recently self-published his first book, When Tobacco Was King – A History of Tobacco in Canada – A Southerner’s Global Journey. Allen extensively researched the subject matter of his book as the son of the former President of the Canadian Leaf Tobacco Company, (a subsidiary of the Universal Leaf Tobacco Company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia), he shares his father's personal records, his own research and personal memories, and knowledge of the tobacco business, gained by growing up so close to the tobacco industry. “When Tobacco Was King" is the story of the most profitable agricultural product ever and it details the tobacco industry’s start up from its early infancy in North Carolina to its spread across the border into Canada. The book has received favorable feedback and is available on Amazon.com.
